          Following the tradition of the first Military School, founded on June 13th 1847 and carried on in the early years of the last century by the "Rural Gendarmerie School” and ” The Training School for Police Station Chiefs" and a few decades later by the "Training School for the Gendarme Officers" and the "Non - Commissionned Officer School in Drăgăşani", on the 3rd of April 2000, ”Mihai Viteazul” Gendarmerie School was established by the Order of the Minister of Interior no. I/05024.
 


 


          In the memory of the first voivode who succeeded in unifying the three Romanian Principalities - Moldova, Ardeal and Ţara Românească, The Gendarmerie School has been given the name of our great voivode, Mihai Viteazul.
          On the 3rd of April 2001, the school was conferred the Battle Flag by presidential decree.
 


 


          On 28th of September 1999 – in Paris, a Memorandum, referring to the training of the gendarme officers, was signed, between the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Ministry of Home Affairs.
 


          On 25th of July 2000 – in Bucharest, a Convention referring to the restoration, arranging and furniture fitting out of the school, was signed between the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Ministry of Home Affair.

          On 6th November 2002 – in Bucharest, The General Convention, between the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Ministry of Home Affairs, regarding ”Mihai Viteazul” Gendarmerie School (renewed on 27th November 2003).
 


 


          On 9 th of July 2002- in Bucharest, The Complementary Convention, between The Romanian Ministry of Home Affairs and The French Foreign Affairs was signed, about repairing, equipping funds ans school supplies.

          On 13th of November 2002 – with the participation of the President of Romania, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Interior and the General Director of French Gendarmerie, the school's renewed building was open.
 


 


          On 11th of 2003 – in Bucharest, two conventions were signed between the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Ministry of Home Affairs; One of them, referring to the functioning of the International Course and the other one, regarding the financial support of this course.
